This website is the personal website of Jiyu Yan. It is used to publish professional information, projects, technical writing, and selected essays.

I try to keep data collection minimal. This page explains what information may be processed when you visit yanjiyu.com, contact me, or use interactive features such as comments.

Information This Site May Process

Information You Provide

If you contact me by email, through a contact form, or through a linked social or professional profile, I may receive the information you choose to send. This can include your name, email address, message content, and any professional details you include.

I use that information only to read, respond to, and manage the conversation.

Technical Information

When you visit the site, standard technical information may be processed by the hosting provider and related infrastructure. This can include your IP address, browser type, device information, pages requested, referring page, and request time.

This information is used for normal website delivery, security, debugging, abuse prevention, and reliability.

Comments

Some posts may include comments powered by Giscus, which uses GitHub Discussions. If you choose to comment, GitHub may process your GitHub account information, comment content, reactions, and related metadata under GitHub’s own privacy terms.

You do not need to comment to read the site.

Cookies And Local Storage

This site may store a small local preference in your browser, such as your light or dark theme choice. This is stored locally on your device and is used only to keep the site looking the way you selected.

The site does not currently use advertising cookies or targeted advertising trackers. Third-party services, such as GitHub/Giscus or embedded external links you choose to open, may use their own cookies or storage.

Analytics

Google Tag Manager is not currently enabled on this site. If analytics are added later, this policy should be updated to describe what is collected and why.

How Information Is Used

Information is used to:

  • deliver and maintain the website;
  • respond to messages and professional enquiries;
  • protect the site from abuse or technical problems;
  • understand whether content and pages are working properly;
  • support optional comment functionality.

I do not sell personal information.

Sharing Information

Information may be processed by services needed to run the site, such as hosting, email, GitHub/Giscus comments, domain, deployment, or security providers. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies.

I may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights or safety, or to investigate abuse of the website.

Retention

Contact messages are kept only as long as they are useful for correspondence, professional context, or record keeping. Server logs and infrastructure records are retained according to the relevant provider’s normal retention periods.

Comments remain visible according to GitHub/Giscus settings unless deleted by the commenter, repository maintainers, or GitHub.

Your Choices

You can:

  • avoid optional comment features;
  • delete or block local browser storage through your browser settings;
  • contact me to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information you have sent directly to me;
  • manage GitHub/Giscus comment data through your GitHub account and GitHub’s privacy controls.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights under applicable law.

This site links to third-party websites such as GitHub, LinkedIn, and other resources mentioned in posts. I am not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those external websites.

Children’s Privacy

This site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

I may update this policy when the website, hosting, analytics, comments, or contact features change. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when the policy was most recently revised.
